The manuscript of an Armenian gospel book created around 1198 in the Armenian Kingdom of Cilicia is a unique and direct example of the medieval art of writing and book painting.


This extraordinary manuscript coming from the Eastern Christian cultural area located in the Armenian bishopric in Lvov in the 19th century and belonged to the treasures of Lvov cathedral till WWII. As a result of the Catholic-Unitary meetings, it reached Poland after 1945 from the Armenians in Ukraine.

Due to the considerable percentage of destroyed Armenian manuscripts, each of the preserved ones constitutes the core of the cultural heritage and the basis of cultural awareness for the Armenians dispersed in the world. Many of those who study the Middle Ages maintain that they have never had a chance to see such a precious and beautiful manuscript.
